It is possible, and often desired, to have more than one web browser window open at the same time.
You may wish to look at two web sites side by side, save one webpage for viewing later, or you may want to simply want to do two (or more) things at once.
- Use the Minimize button on any open browser windows to move them to the taskbar.
If the computer is using Windows 98, there is a button for ‘show desktop’ in the
taskbar, probably next to the ‘Start’ button. Clicking on the ‘show desktop’ button will minimize ALL open programs to the taskbar at one time.
- Locate either the Internet Explorer or Netscape icon (graphic
representation) on the computer’s screen (known as the desktop), and move the mouse pointer to the icon. This is a shortcut to the program - a quick way to begin the program.
- Double click on the icon to open the program.
Important note
: If you have trouble with the “double click” use of the mouse, you can RIGHT Click while pointing at the icon. This opens a list of options. You can move your mouse so that the ‘open’ command is selected/highlighted, then
either Click or press <enter> on the keyboard.
- A new browser window will open on your screen, and the taskbar (the bar
across the bottom of your screen) will show the two (or more) browser buttons.
If the browser windows are maximized or cover the computer screen, you can easily
switch back and forth by clicking on the appropriate button on the task bar.
If the browser windows are not maximized, you may be able to see part of each
window. If you click on any part of a window, it will bring that window to the top.
